“Love Live! Superstar!!” Idol Group Adds 4 New Members
The official website for the “Love Live!” franchise recently announced with a teaser visual that “Liella!”, the main idol group in “Love Live! Superstar!!”, will be adding four new members. Season 2 of the musical anime is set to premiere in July 2022.
In addition, the website and a special edition of “Love Live! Days” magazine revealed character profiles for the new members set to join the original five members of the group.
The new cast and characters include:
Nozomi Suzuhara as “Kinako Sakurakoji”, a girl from Hokkaido who enrolled in Yuigaoka after seeing ‘Liella!’ perform, even though she thinks of herself as completely average and unable to live up to the school idol ideal.
Akane Yabushima as “Mei Yoneme”, a girl who is self-conscious about how her expression. She can be perceived as constantly hostile, and therefore she thinks it makes her unsuited to being a school idol.
Wakana Ōkuma as “Shiki Wakana”, a curt, scientifically-minded girl who is also a member of the science club. She lists insects and Mei as her likes, and is not much for crowds, but likes singing with the others on stage.
Aya Emori as “Natsumi Onitsuka”, a popular "L-Tuber" who decided to give being a school idol a try. She likes drinking smoothies while thinking up the next plan to make ‘Liella!’ more popular, and asks fans to like and subscribe to her channel.
“Love Live! Superstar!!” follows the idol group “Liella”. The previous 5 member group included Sayuri Date as “Kanon Shibuya”, Liyuu as “Keke Tang”, Nako Misaki as “Chisato Arashi”, Naomi Payton as “Sumire Heanna”, and Nagisa Aoyama as “Ren Hazuki”.
“Love Live! Superstar” Season 2 was announced back in October 2021.
Funimation simulcast season 1 of the anime in the US as it aired in Japan. Hajime Yatate, the collective pseudonym for the staff of Sunrise, are credited for the production with Takahiko Kyōgoku as director.

The “Love Live!” franchise is a multimedia project that includes anime, manga, light novels, music and video games. “Love Live! School Idol Project” TV anime premiered in 2013 with a 13-episode first season. The series continued with a second season in 2014. “Love Live! The School Idol Movie”, which was a sequel to the TV anime, was released in 2015. Seasons 1, 2 and the movie are available to stream on Funimation in subtitles and English dubbing.
“Love Live! Sunshine!!” TV anime Season 1 premiered in 2016. Followed by Season 2 premiered in 2017 and then “Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie Over the Rainbow” anime film in 2019. Seasons 1 and 2 can currently be steamed on Crunchyroll and Funimation in subtitles and English dubbing. The anime series and film are also available on blu-ray.
“Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club” TV anime premiered in October 2020 and is available to stream on Funimation and Crunchyroll in subtitles and English dubbing. Season 2 premiered on April 2, 2022 and is currently being simulcast on Crunchyroll as part of their Spring 2022 Anime Season.
