“Luminous Witches” Anime Announces July 2022 Premiere With 3rd Promo Video

The official website for the “Luminous Witches” anime announced the premiere date with a third promotional video for the upcoming series. The musical anime is set to be released in July 2022.

Known in Japan as “Renmei Kūgun Kōkū Mahō Ongakutai Luminous Witches” (Allied Air Force Magical Idols Luminous Witches), the anime is a spinoff of the Strike Witches franchise. The story follows a unique squadron of "witches who don't fight". Instead, the group of witches sing and perform music to protect the smiles of those who have been driven out of their hometowns by the Neuroi.

The anime stars Sayaka Tsuzuki as “Éléonore Giovanna Gassion”, Ami Aimoto as “Lyudmila Andreyevna Rouslanova”, Mai Narumi as “Virginia Robertson”, Minako Hosokawa as “Inori Shibuya”, Ryō Mamiya as “Aira Payvikki”, Linnamar Kana Konaka as “Maria Magadalene”, Dietrich Misaki Yūki as “Manaia Matawhaura”, Hato Rino Yoshikita as “Sylvie Cariello”, Rio Mamesaki as “Joanna Elizabeth Stafford”, and Mikako Komatsu as “Grace Maitland Steward”.

“Luminous Witches” will be directed by Shoji Saeki with Kana Shundo as the assistant director at anime studio Shaft. Humikane Shimada and Projekt World Witches are credited with the original work. Kadokawa is producing the music.

Kadokawa announced the anime back in 2018. The series was originally set to be released in 2021 but was delayed due to "various circumstances" according to the production team.

“Strike Witches” is a multimedia franchise originally created by Fumikane Shimada. The anime’s original OVA premiered in 2007 and the franchise has since released multiple seasons, a film and additional OVA’s. “Strike Witches” is available to stream in subtitles on Crunchyroll.

“Strike Witches” Crunchyroll Synopsis: In 1944, the world lives in fear of unidentified flying objects that even the military can’t thwart! Humanity turns its desperate eyes to the girls of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, better known as the Strike Witches. These dolls blast aliens to bits in the bat of an eyelash, and with a little magic and a whole lot of leg, the girls of the 501st are winning the war on pants—and aliens!
