“Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising-” Announces Winter 2024 Release With Trailer And Visual
During Aniplex’s Online Fest 2023, a new visual and trailer was released for the highly-anticipated film “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht Rising-”. The anime is set to be released in Winter 2024 in theaters in Japan. No international release has been announced as of yet.
“Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht Rising-” is the fourth film in the “Madoka Magica” franchise and is the sequel to the 2013 film, “Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie -Rebellion-”. The trailer (below) was released with the tagline, "And so, let the curtain rise on tonight's dream."
The cast and staff from “Rebellion” will be returning for the new film with the animated studio SHAFT and original creators Magica Quartet. Yukihiro Miyamoto is directing the film with Akiyuki Shimbo as the chief director. Gen Urobuchi from Nitroplus will be writing the script and Yuki Kajiura will compose the film. aokiume is the original character designer with Junichiro Taniguchi as the animation character designer. Gekidan Inu Curry is returning as the parallel world designer to design the Witches Spaces.
The returning cast includes: Aoi Yuki as “Madoka Kaname”, Chiwa Saito as “Homura Akemi”, Kaori Mizuhashi as “Mami Tomoe”, Eri Kitamura as “Sayaka Miki”, Ai Nonaka as “Kyoko Sakura”, Kana Asumi as “Nagisa Momoe”, and Emiri Kato as “Kyubey”.
The original 12-episode TV anime “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” was released in 2011 and can currently be streamed on Crunchyroll and Netflix in subtitles and English dubbing.
“Puella Magi Madoka Magica” Synopsis: She has a loving family and best friends, laughs and cries from time to time… Madoka Kaname, an eighth grader of Mitakihara middle school, is one of those who lives such a life. One day, she had a very magical encounter. She doesn't know if it happened by chance or by fate yet. This is a fateful encounter that can change her destiny. This is a beginning of the new story of the magical witch girls.
The “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings” and “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 2: Eternal” compilation films were released in theaters in Japan in October 2012. The sequel film, “Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion”, was released in theaters in Japan in October 2013.
In 2020, the spin-off TV anime series “Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story” was released. Season 2 was released in July 2021 and Season 3 in April 2022. “Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story” is available to stream on Crunchyroll and HIDIVE in subtitles.
