“Yuri Is My Job!” TV Anime Announced
After a month of rumors and online leaks, it was announced that Miman's “Yuri Is My Job!” (Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto Desu!) manga will be getting an anime. The official website for the upcoming anime released two key visuals and a promotional video.
The two visuals show the two sides to the characters as they work in the cafe. The anime announcement was made during Ichijinsha’s special online program celebrating the release of volume 10 of the manga in Japan.
The anime will star Yui Ogura as “Hime Shirasagi” and Sumire Uesaka as “Mitsuki Ayanokōji”. Both are reprising their roles as they also appeared in the manga’s seventh promotional video.
Hijiri Sanpei is directing the anime at Passione (“Citrus”) and Studio Lings, with the company Infinite as producer. Taisuke Iwasaki is designing the characters. No release date for the anime has been announced as of yet.
The Yuri community had been speculating online for the past month after it was leaked that the website watayuri-anime had been registered as a domain. The anime and manga’s tagline “Schwestern in Libie!” means “Sisters in Love” in German. This is a play on the “younger sister and big sister” system made famous by the Yuri anime “Maria Watches Over Us”.
Known in Japan as “Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto Desu!”, the manga was launched in Ichijinsha's iconic Comic Yuri Hime magazine in 2016. The manga currently has 10 volumes in print in Japan and has 500,000 copies (including digital) in circulation according to the publisher. The manga’s creator, Miman, released a visual on Twitter (pictured below) to celebrate the announcement of the anime.
Kodansha Comics is publishing the manga in English and there are currently 8 volumes in print. Volume 9 is set to be released on July 12, 2022.
