Seven Seas Licenses “There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless…” Yuri Light Novel And Manga Series

Publisher Seven Seas Entertainment announced today the license acquisitions of the Yuri light novel and manga series “There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless…” by Teren Mikami, Eku Takeshima, and Musshu. According to Seven Seas, both will a part their new “Girls’ Love” label, which will be located on the back of the titles “to help readers easily discover the content they crave in an ever-expanding manga marketplace”.

Seven Seas describes the light novel and manga as “a high school yuri comedy about fake dating, real dating, competitive dating–and one very overwhelmed girl who’s accidentally doing all three at once?!”

Known in Japan as “Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Naijan, Murimuri!” (There's No Way I Can Have a Lover! Or Maybe There Is?), the light novel and manga are both written by Teren Mikami. Mikami’s “If You Could See Love” manga series is currently being published by Yen Press digitally in English.

The “There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless…” light novel is illustrated by Eku Takeshima, best known as creator of the popular Yuri manga series “Whisper Me a Love Song”. The manga artist is Musshu, who has contributed stories to the “Bloom Into You: Official Comic Anthology” manga series and the “Éclair: A Girls' Love Anthology” manga series. Both were first serialized in 2020 in Japan with the light novel at Dash X Bunko and the manga at Suiyoubi wa Mattari Dash X Comic with currently 4 volumes each in print.

Synopsis: Renako Amaori is leaving her awkward and lonely junior high school life behind, determined to become a normal girl with normal friends in high school. Glamorous, confident Mai Ouzuka is Renako’s total opposite: wealthy, outgoing, and a literal fashion model. Against the odds, the two girls form an immediate connection. Unless…” Light Novel Volume 1 will be released for the first time in North America in single large-trim editions in print and early on digital platforms in May 2023 for $14.99 USA / $18.99 CAN. The volumes will be a part of Seven Seas’ Airship imprint and Girls’ Love label.

“There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless…” Manga Volume 1 will be released for the first time in North America in print and on digital platforms in single volume editions in April 2023 for $13.99 USA / $17.99 CAN. The volumes will be a part of the Seven Seas Girls’ Love label.

According to the Seven Seas, books in the GL / Girls’ Love / yuri genre (about women loving women) will now be under the new label. The Seven Seas GL label will include manga, light novels, and beyond, rated anywhere from Teen through Mature.
