Classic TV Anime “Revolutionary Girl Utena” To Stream On Crunchyroll
Streamer Crunchyroll announced today that the classic TV anime “Revolutionary Girl Utena” will be added to their anime catalog in the US and Canada.
All 39 episodes are now available to stream in subtitles and English dubbing on Crunchyroll.
Synopsis: "Never lose that strength or nobility, even when you grow up." When Utena was just a child and in the depths of sorrow, she found salvation in those words. They were the words of a prince, who bestowed upon her both a ring and the promise that it would lead her to him again. She never forgot the encounter. Now a teenager, Utena attends the prestigious Ohtori Academy; however, her strong sense of chivalry soon places her at odds with the student council and thrusts her into a series of mysterious and dangerous duels against its members.
Based on the manga created by Be-Papas and art by Chiho Saito, the anime was directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara and produced by J.C.Staff in 1997. Due to critical acclaim, the series went on to have a video game, stage musicals and a spin-off light novel series. The anime is also available to stream on Funimation and Nozomi Entertainment’s Youtube.
In 1999, the film “Adolescence of Utena” was released. The film is considered an adaptation of the original anime in a condensed version with added Yuri content between the characters Utena and Anthy. The film is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Manga publisher Viz Media is currently publishing the manga including the sequel “Revolutionary Girl Utena: After the Revolution”.
